The Michigan Psychoanalytic Council is dedicated to the promotion of humanitarian principles and enhancing personal and interpersonal well-being and creativity by bringing psychoanalytic understanding to life. This includes a commitment to action within the community: through high-quality low-cost treatment of those in need; continuing adult education through courses, conferences, and scientific meetings; and providing consultation regarding issues concerning the well-being of children, adults, and families within the broader community.

The objectives of the Council are

The study of psychoanalysis
The enhancement of public and scientific interest in psychoanalysis
The support of educational and research programs in psychoanalysis
The establishment of standards and the certification of qualified individuals in psychoanalysis
The establishment of educational programs to train qualified individuals in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and to award them a certificate upon graduation
The establishment of collaborative relations with other organizations with similar interests
The maintenance of a non-discriminatory policy regarding gender, race, age, religion, sexual orientation, and ethnicity in membership and training
